Educational program providing horticultural information to the community in a public setting such as garden shops, Home Depot, etc. Master Gardeners hand out Extension literature and answer general questions about Alabama Extension, the Master Gardener Program, and home gardening

Neighbor to Neighbor
Educational program where Master Gardeners host meetings in homes and community buildings for friends and neighbors. Information on responsible environmental practices and educational material is provided. Guest speakers provide a short program followed by a Q&A session.

Adopt-a-Spot
The Master Gardeners of North Alabama have responsibility for the two traffic islands/triangles that are located at Williams and Lowe in downtown Huntsville. Twice yearly, the triangles are landscaped and subsequently maintained by Master Gardener volunteers.

Special Projects
Master Gardeners are needed for projects which support the mission of improving the exposure of the MG Program. Examples include decorating the Madison County Library window and Christmas tree, a Master Gardener weekend at the Botanical Gardens, Master Gardeners support to improve their properties. |

Administrative Support & Horticulture Research Assistance
Responsibilities include answering horticultural questions from either telephone calls or walk-in visitors to the Madison County Extension Office. A large reference library and printed publications are available to help answer questions. An Extension Agent can assist with information not found in the reference material. |
Master Gardener Class Committee/Team Member
A committee of Master Gardeners plan and conduct the Master Gardener course, under the supervision of the MG Training Program Coordinator. Includes some general committee work and overseeing volunteer activities to assure the program’s continued success. |

Demonstration Vegetable Garden
A combination of traditional row garden, square-foot gardening and raised-bed gardens. This garden is maintained by a group of regular volunteers, with additional assistance for special projects. |
Spring Plant Sale
Assistance is needed in all areas of this Huntsville Botanical Gardens fund raising event before, during, and after the sale. Master Gardeners sponsor the Vegetable Tent, distribute information, and do soil pH testing.

Compost Demonstration Program
A compost demonstration area located adjacent to the Demonstration Vegetable Garden. This is maintained regularly, with the resulting compost being shared between the Vegetable Garden and the volunteers. |
Galaxy of Lights
Annual event held during November and December at Huntsville Botanical Garden. Work includes various tasks on the evenings the display is open, as well as setting up and removing displays. |

Horticulture Therapy
Volunteers also work with clients of the Adult Daycare Health Program at the Senior Center. Work is performed on a regular basis. Visit http://www.seniorview.com/ for more info on the Senior Center. Horticulture Therapy is a major project of MGNA. |
Habitat for Humanity
Master Gardeners provide educational and support services for the landscaping of Habitat Homes. This includes design of the landscape, acquisition of materials, and instruction on installation and maintenance of the landscape.
